3 Important Skills To Master For A Successful Life

Nowadays success is not measured exclusively in money. A modern successful person is a happy, balanced and educated human being, who lives in a harmony with society, takes responsibility and makes the world a better place to live.

There are many important skills that a person needs to learn in order to live a successful life. Let us discuss the three basic qualities necessary for achieving the success: communication, leadership and goal setting.

#1. Communication

Communication is the number one skill on a road to successful life. It covers all the areas of life and connects them. Due to the lack of person-to-person communication, today’s young people become a silent generation, unable to speak out of e-mails and social medias. However, it is important to learn to speak up, negotiate, build a network both on the Internet and the real word, as most of the problems can be solved by communicating them.

“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” – Tony Robbins

It is important to remember that communication means not only speaking but also listening, being empathetic and obtaining an emotional connection. Communication is a win-win process, which allows both sides to achieve their goals. Good written and spoken language, the art of public speaking, and respect to the interlocutor are the key components of an effective communication.

#2. Leadership

Taking own responsibility and learning to lead other people is another important skill that a person needs for a successful life. Leadership includes intelligence, determination, toughness, and vision, but also it contains emotional intelligence.

Researchers say that emotional intelligence is far more important than the lever of IQ. Really effective leaders have a high level of emotional intelligence, which means a combination of self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, motivation and social skills. The blend of these characteristics and decent knowledge makes a person a good leader, able to manage others and achieve a success in life.

“The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.” – Ken Blanchard

#3. Goal Setting

Goal setting is an essential skill for people who want to become a success. Although it is not enough just to think about the goals, as the goals become more effective when they are written down and systematized.

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” – Tony Robbins

A few hints about goal setting:

– Few goals are better than many, as a person cannot truly focus on more than five-seven items at a time;
– Goals must be SMART: specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time-bound;
– Goals must be reviewed on a regular basis;
– Goals must be shared with a chosen audience of mentors or business partners to keep you accountable.

Setting goals makes the life more meaningful. The person with the goals enjoys the life much more, feeling happier and more likely to achieve success. Once you have your goals written down, ask yourself what you can do every day to help you move closer to the achievement of your goals.

There is no magic formula that will lead a person to a successful life, but developing the basic skills – communication, leadership and goal setting – might become a platform to a new happy existence.
